Manners Monday
It’s not a “preachin’ to”… it’s just knowledge (and GI Joe, circa 1985, was right… knowing is half the battle!)
Etiquette is such an important part of the invitation world, and we constantly have customers who ask for advice on etiquette standards for their invitation or event. That’s why we always have a big, fat copy of Emily Post’s Etiquette on hand to save the day! Not only does it have helpful hints for invitation wording and entertaining etiquette, it’s also a great resource for general questions on appropriate behavior in day to day situations!
In an effort to help our guests feel more comfortable with their etiquette power, we’ve dubbed as Monday “Manners Monday”! Each Monday we will try to share a different etiquette tip for various situations and everyday experiences. Some of them will be simple (and common sense to most of you), but you never know… you might learn a thing or two along the way (and we will too)!
We’ll make today an easy one:
RSVP Etiquette
“An RSVP- the abbreviation of the French phrase respondez s’il vous plait, meaning “please respond”- or the phrase “The favour of a reply is requested” obligates invitees to accept or regret an invitation.” (on pg. 627)
The most common misuse of this term (that we see all the time) is when someone wants to say “Please RSVP… “ It’s redundant since “RSVP” already means to “please respond”.
If your event is more casual, you also have the option of using “Regrets Only…” instead of a formal “RSVP”. That way, guests who forget to RSVP early will not feel that they are no longer welcome to join the party just because they did not RSVP!
Happy Monday, and make it a great week!
Leave your response!
